Above the Net: Authentic HTML5 Volleyball Spike Simulator
Volleyball Spike delivers the aerial excitement, lightning-fast reflexes, and kinetic power of international competitive volleyball to your web browser. Built entirely from scratch using the HTML5 Canvas API and the Web Audio API, this simulation models the authentic physics of setter approach timing, vertical jump apexes, blocker deflection angles, and floor impact restitution. Read the set, rise above the net, and drill the volleyball down into the opponent's court.
How to Play Volleyball Spike
- Track the Setter's Toss: Your teammate setter lofts the volleyball in a high parabola across the net zone.
- Time Your Approach Jump: Tap or click to initiate your vertical leap. Starting your jump at the peak of the ball's arc ensures you reach the apex at the exact moment of ball arrival.
- Choose Your Attack: Power Spike drills the ball steeply down into open space; Tool the Block deflects off opposing fingers; Soft Tip drops the ball over jumping blockers.
- Evade the Two-Man Block: Opposing defenders leap simultaneously with outstretched hands. Angling your spike cross-court or down the line avoids getting blocked!
- Play to 15 Points: Compete in official rally scoring where every point counts. Win by 2 points to earn the championship tournament trophy!
The Biomechanics of Spiking: Jump Elevation, Hand Contact, and Block Deflection
A professional volleyball attacker reaches jump touch heights exceeding 11 feet (3.4 meters). Striking the ball at the highest possible point expands the downward angle into the opponent's 9x9 meter court, leaving defenders virtually no reaction time.
Our physics engine computes vertical kinematics in real time: gravity pulls the attacker and ball along parabolic curves, while contact calculations determine ball trajectory, exit speed (up to 75+ mph), and whether contact with the opposing block results in a roof block or a winning tool-out off the antenna.

⏱️ Vertical Jump Timing Windows
Realistic leap mechanics requiring microsecond timing to meet the setter's toss at peak height.
🧱 Intelligent Two-Man Blocks
Defenders read approach angles and leap vertically to contest power spikes and protect court angles.
📱 Single-Tap & Gesture Controls
Designed for fluid tap jumping and swipe spiking on mobile smartphones and desktop mice.

Resonant leather palm slaps, floor squeaks, referee whistles, and roaring stadium applause.
Strategy Guide: Becoming an Unstoppable Outside Hitter
Tooling the Block
When the opposing block closes both the line and cross-court angles, aim directly for the outside hand of the outer blocker. A fast spike glancing off the outer fingertip will carom out of bounds for an uncontested kill point.
The Deceptive Roll Shot
If the blockers jump high and early, do not attempt to swing with maximum force. Instead, tap the Soft Tip button to gently roll the ball right over their fingertips into the empty doughnut zone of the backcourt.
